Commitment

1

The size of the bonito

In spring, young 2-3kg first-catch bonito; in autumn, richly fatty 4-5kg returning bonito, carefully selected by season.

2

Raw bonito from Kochi

Most Kochi bonito is pole-and-line caught, leaving it beautiful and undamaged. We ship our select bonito direct from the port.

3

Straw from Shiga

We use straw hand-cut ourselves from vast contracted fields in Shiga. Dried straw burns hot with the finest smoky aroma.

4

The grilling

Over straw flames reaching 1000 degrees, we sear a crust about 5mm into the flesh, then finish with residual heat to lock in flavor.

5

The thickness of the cut

Cut over 1cm thick so the straw aroma fills your mouth, brimming with bonito flavor and a springy texture.

6

Our chosen salt

A fully sun-dried salt handmade by artisans from Kochi seawater. We select larger crystals for a mellow mineral taste.

Service

01

Robata & Warayaki

Bonito from Kochi and Omi beef from Shiga, grilled over straw right before you. Seasonal fish and vegetables draw out their fullest flavor over charcoal.

02

Sake & Local Brews

A generous selection of sake chosen from across Japan, including local Shiga brews — from dry to sweet. Our staff suggest the one glass that suits your dish, so you can enjoy sake tasting in Hikone.

03

Seafood & Sashimi

Fresh fish shipped straight from the port, finished into sashimi by skilled hands. Enjoy the seafood of Hikone in seasonal plates such as our five-kind sashimi platter.

04

Omi Beef & Omi Chicken

Shiga's specialty Omi beef, straw-grilled or miso-marinated, and overnight-dried Omi chicken. Enjoy Shiga's premium ingredients dynamically over charcoal in Hikone.

05

Private Rooms & Banquets

Relaxing private rooms, banquet courses with free-flow drinks, and full-venue bookings on request. Steps from Hikone Station — ideal for company parties and gatherings.

How to enjoy Robata

Robata Story

01

Choose your seat: counter or round table

Across 90 seats there are counter seats, round tables, three table private rooms for six each, and two tatami private rooms for up to 30. For a close view of the straw flames, take the counter.

02

Straight off the fire, taste it plain

Begin at the surface, wrapped in the fragrance of straw. The first plain mouthful tells you what the bonito and the Omi beef taste like on their own.

03

Move through the course with salt and citrus

Partway through, bring in condiments, rock salt and citrus. On the Shiga Mankitsu course, ten dishes at 6,050 yen, the meal runs on to Kurao pork and Omi duck junjun.

04

A cup after walking Hikone Castle

Hikone Castle, Genkyuen and Yumekyobashi Castle Road are a two minute walk back from JR Hikone Station. Our staff suggest the Shiga sake that suits your sashimi or straw-grilled plate.

In the world of business in Hikone, entertaining clients and partners is a crucial endeavor. It's a valuable opportunity to express gratitude and build strong, lasting relationships. Naturally, you want the best—no compromises on cuisine, atmosphere, or service. You might find yourself wondering where to host an event that will genuinely delight your guests while allowing you to relax and focus on the conversation.

Our restaurant is dedicated to solving this dilemma. We have meticulously prepared everything to ensure your business dinner in Hikone is a resounding success. Allow us to introduce how we can enrich your important moments and present our chef's masterpiece—a course menu we are proud to offer.

Hosting a Business Dinner in Hikone? Do Any of These Concerns Sound Familiar?

Choosing the right venue for a business dinner requires careful consideration. For instance, do any of the following concerns resonate with you?

  • We need a private, quiet space for our conversation.

When discussing sensitive business matters, the last thing you want is to be distracted by a noisy environment or worry about being overheard. A lack of privacy can significantly detract from the quality of your meeting.

  • We need a place that accommodates both smokers and non-smokers comfortably.

In today's world, creating a comfortable atmosphere for everyone is essential. Finding a venue that ensures both smokers and non-smokers can enjoy their time without inconvenience is a major factor in event planning.

  • We want to offer something special and unique to Hikone, not just great food.

When hosting in Hikone, you want to impress your guests with local, seasonal ingredients and a culinary experience they can't get anywhere else. However, finding a restaurant that truly captures that special local essence can be a challenge.

  • As the organizer, I want a smooth, stress-free experience.

From selecting the menu and coordinating drinks to managing the flow of the evening, an organizer's plate is full. It's natural to feel anxious about how smoothly things will run at a new venue. We aim to alleviate these concerns and provide an experience that satisfies everyone, making us the ideal izakaya in Hikone for business entertaining.

For our business dinner courses, we place special emphasis on presentation, creating dishes that are as beautiful as they are delicious and memorable. Guest favorites include our vibrant seasonal appetizer platter (hassun) and melt-in-your-mouth nigiri sushi, each piece telling a story of its ingredients.

Blissful Pairings with Hikone's Local Sake

A great meal is made even better with the right drink. We offer an extensive beverage menu, featuring local sake from Shiga Prefecture, as well as premium sake, shochu, and wine from across Japan, alongside a wide selection of non-alcoholic options. The pairings of our chef's creations and our sommelier's selections will elevate your dining experience.
