Commitment

1

The size of the bonito

In spring, young 2-3kg first-catch bonito; in autumn, richly fatty 4-5kg returning bonito, carefully selected by season.

2

Raw bonito from Kochi

Most Kochi bonito is pole-and-line caught, leaving it beautiful and undamaged. We ship our select bonito direct from the port.

3

Straw from Shiga

We use straw hand-cut ourselves from vast contracted fields in Shiga. Dried straw burns hot with the finest smoky aroma.

4

The grilling

Over straw flames reaching 1000 degrees, we sear a crust about 5mm into the flesh, then finish with residual heat to lock in flavor.

5

The thickness of the cut

Cut over 1cm thick so the straw aroma fills your mouth, brimming with bonito flavor and a springy texture.

6

Our chosen salt

A fully sun-dried salt handmade by artisans from Kochi seawater. We select larger crystals for a mellow mineral taste.

How to enjoy Robata

Robata Story

01

Choose your seat: counter or round table

Across 90 seats there are counter seats, round tables, three table private rooms for six each, and two tatami private rooms for up to 30. For a close view of the straw flames, take the counter.

02

Straight off the fire, taste it plain

Begin at the surface, wrapped in the fragrance of straw. The first plain mouthful tells you what the bonito and the Omi beef taste like on their own.

03

Move through the course with salt and citrus

Partway through, bring in condiments, rock salt and citrus. On the Shiga Mankitsu course, ten dishes at 6,050 yen, the meal runs on to Kurao pork and Omi duck junjun.

04

A cup after walking Hikone Castle

Hikone Castle, Genkyuen and Yumekyobashi Castle Road are a two minute walk back from JR Hikone Station. Our staff suggest the Shiga sake that suits your sashimi or straw-grilled plate.

Enrich Your Gatherings Near Hikone Station: The Allure of Our Chef's Select Courses

Introduction: Struggling to Choose a Venue for Your Gathering Near Hikone Station?

In Hikone City, Shiga Prefecture—a beautiful town where history and nature breathe—many of you may be planning a gathering near the central Hikone Station for various purposes, such as chatting with friends, bonding with colleagues, or celebrating anniversaries with loved ones. Enjoying delicious food and drinks together can soothe the weariness of daily life and provide energy for tomorrow. However, even with a general term like 'Hikone Izakaya,' the options are vast. You might find yourself puzzling over where to go, wondering, 'I want to eat seafood in Hikone, but where's a good place?' or 'Where's a restaurant near Hikone Station that everyone will enjoy for our party?'

Searching online for 'Hikone Izakaya' or 'Hikone Seafood' yields countless results. It's often difficult to grasp the true atmosphere of a restaurant or the quality of its food from photos alone, leading to the anxiety of not knowing until you actually visit. For event organizers, in particular, finding a place where all participants will be genuinely satisfied can be a significant source of pressure.

At our restaurant, we have prepared special courses crafted by our head chef to solve these concerns and make your gathering in Hikone the best possible experience. We promise to cater to any occasion and deliver a memorable time. In this column, we will detail the appeal of our chef's highly recommended course meals and how to make the most of them.

The Core Question: What Do Organizers and Guests Truly Want from a Gathering?

What exactly constitutes the 'perfect gathering'? It's not simply about 'getting full.' It becomes a cherished memory only when multiple elements come together, allowing each participant to have a genuinely enjoyable and satisfying time. Let's list the specific points that organizers consider when choosing a venue and what attendees expect.

  • High-Quality, Fresh Cuisine: Delicious food is, after all, the star of any gathering. Customers seeking Hikone seafood, in particular, prioritize freshness and quality ingredients. Having a special, unique dish like our signature straw-grilled bonito direct from Kochi is also a major draw.
  • A Relaxing Atmosphere and Private Rooms: The demand for spaces where guests can enjoy conversation without worrying about their surroundings is growing. The availability of a private room izakaya in Hikone or a private tatami room in Hikone is an essential condition, especially for business entertainment or important gatherings.
  • Convenient Access: When planning a gathering at Hikone Station, proximity to the station is crucial. An izakaya in Asahimachi that is easily accessible for those coming from work or out of town is an attractive option.
  • Extensive Drink Menu: The enjoyment of choosing drinks to pair with food is a key part of a gathering. A wide selection of beverages, including local Shiga sake, can greatly influence guest satisfaction.
  • Balance of Price and Quality: While the quality of the food is paramount, the ability to choose a highly satisfying course that fits within the budget is a critical point for organizers.
  • Versatility for Various Occasions: The venue should be flexible enough to accommodate different events, such as a company banquet course in Hikone, use as a business entertainment izakaya in Hikone, a class reunion in Hikone with old friends, or a family anniversary.
  • Consideration for Smoking/Non-Smoking: Whether the establishment is a Hikone izakaya with separated smoking areas, ensuring a comfortable environment for everyone, can also be a deciding factor.

Finding a restaurant that meets all these criteria can be more challenging than you might think. However, at our establishment, we offer meticulously prepared course meals and services designed to meet these 'true desires' of our customers.

The Solution: A Detailed Look at Our Chef's Special Courses for Your Hikone Station Gathering

To meet our customers' diverse needs and our desire to provide the best experience, our restaurant offers a variety of exquisite course meals, woven together with seasonal ingredients carefully selected by our head chef and his expert techniques. Each course is filled with a dedication to making your night in Hikone unforgettable.

1. The Straw-Grilled Bonito Direct from Kochi Course to Brighten Your Hikone Night

This course allows you to fully enjoy our signature dish, the straw-grilled bonito direct from Kochi. Fresh bonito, sent straight from the fishing ports of Kochi, is boldly seared over straw right here in our restaurant, maximizing its fragrant aroma and concentrated umami. With a savory exterior and a melt-in-your-mouth texture inside, you will be amazed by its freshness and the skill involved from the very first bite.

  • Sample Course Menu: Seasonal appetizer, assorted fresh sashimi of the day, the star dish of straw-grilled bonito direct from Kochi, tempura of seasonal vegetables, a simmered dish, a finishing rice dish with bonito broth, and a seasonal dessert.
  • Perfect Drink Pairing: We especially recommend a crisp, dry local Shiga sake with this straw-grilled bonito. It complements the umami of the fish without overpowering it, cleansing the palate and making the next bite even more delicious. Our sommelier (or sake master) will suggest the perfect bottle to match the day's bonito.
  • Best for Occasions: This course is perfect not only for casual gatherings with friends but is also one we confidently recommend to first-time visitors. It's ideal for a post-work or weekend gathering at Hikone Station.

2. The Luxury Omi Beef and Hikone Seafood Course for Special Occasions

For anniversaries, business entertainment, or special occasions to treat someone important, this luxurious course combining Shiga's prized brand of beef, Omi beef, with fresh Hikone seafood is the perfect choice. The harmony created by the finest selected ingredients will surely create an unforgettable memory.

  1. Omi Beef Preparation: To bring out the maximum flavor of the Omi beef, we serve it using the optimal cooking method based on the day's supply and the season, such as steak, seared sushi, or Hoba-yaki (grilled on a magnolia leaf). We promise a blissful moment as the tender meat and elegant, sweet fat melt in your mouth.
  2. Dishes with Seasonal Seafood: We serve fresh seafood caught locally in Hikone and seasonal Hikone seafood from across the country as exquisite dishes like sashimi, grilled items, or simmered dishes that highlight the ingredients' natural flavors.
  3. Why It's Perfect for Special Occasions: This course is ideal for use as a business entertainment izakaya in Hikone, for important anniversaries like weddings or birthdays, for celebrating milestones like a 60th birthday, or for a class reunion in Hikone with long-lost friends. The chef's passion in each dish and the carefully selected ingredients will add a touch of elegance to your conversation.
  4. Private Spaces: Our restaurant offers a variety of private dining rooms in Hikone of different sizes. We also have horigotatsu-style (sunken kotatsu) private tatami rooms in Hikone, allowing you to relax and enjoy your time without worrying about other guests during business dinners or meals.

3. The Casual Hikone Izakaya Classic Course

Making a gathering at Hikone Station more casual and fun—this classic course, packed with our most popular menu items, is our answer to that customer request. It's perfectly suited for forgetting the hustle and bustle of daily life and enjoying a lively time with companions.

  • Popular Classic Dishes: We offer a well-balanced selection of dishes popular across all generations, including freshly fried juicy karaage (fried chicken), charcoal-grilled skewers, small bowls of seasonal vegetables, and, of course, a dish featuring Hikone seafood.
  • Pairing with an All-You-Can-Drink Plan: By combining this course with our extensive all-you-can-drink plan, you can enjoy yourself to the fullest without worrying about the budget. • Securing a Private Tatami Room in Hikone: For large banquets, we can provide spacious private tatami rooms in Hikone. You can enjoy a unified banquet experience without being concerned about other guests.
  • Consideration as a Hikone Izakaya with Separated Smoking: We have implemented measures to separate smoking and non-smoking areas so that both smokers and non-smokers can have a comfortable time. If you let us know your preference when booking, we will guide you to the most suitable seating.

Practical Steps: How to Make the Most of Your Course Experience

Since you're choosing one of our courses, we want you to not just have a meal, but to fully enrich the experience. Here are some concrete tips for enjoying our courses to the fullest.

For Organizers: Tips for Smooth Booking and Preparation

For an organizer, the key to a successful gathering lies in advance preparation. By following the steps below, you can face the day with confidence.

  1. Confirm the Number of Guests, Date, Time, and Budget: First, gather this basic information from the participants. Having a few potential dates in mind makes it easier to book your desired private room izakaya in Hikone.
  2. Communicate Your Desired Course and Room Preference: Browse our course lineup and choose one that matches the participants' tastes and the purpose of the gathering. Conveying specific requests like, We'd like the Omi beef and Hikone seafood course for a business dinner, or We want to liven up our Hikone Station gathering with the straw-grilled bonito direct from Kochi as the main feature, helps us prepare more smoothly.
  3. Provide Advance Notice of Allergies and Dietary Restrictions: If any participants have allergies or foods they dislike, please be sure to contact us in advance. We will accommodate by changing dishes whenever possible. This is the most crucial step to ensure everyone can dine with peace of mind.
  4. Check the Drink Plan: Confirm the availability of all-you-can-drink plans, the variety of local Shiga sake, and the drinks included in the course. Consider placing additional orders if necessary.
  5. Final Confirmation on the Day of Your Hikone Station Gathering: We recommend contacting us the day before your reservation to reconfirm the number of guests, time, and course details. This helps ensure everything runs smoothly on the day.

Enjoying Food and Drink Pairings

You can enjoy an even deeper flavor experience with our course meals by selecting drinks that pair well with each dish. Local Shiga sake, in particular, has an excellent affinity with local ingredients. Please feel free to consult our staff.

  • With the Straw-Grilled Bonito Direct from Kochi: A crisp, dry local Shiga sake or a fragrant Ginjo sake is recommended for the aromatic and umami-rich straw-grilled fish. It enhances the fat of the bonito and the aroma of the straw while refreshing the palate.
  • With Omi Beef: A full-bodied red wine or a Junmai Daiginjo sake pairs wonderfully with the rich umami of the beautifully marbled Omi beef. It brings out the sweetness of the meat for a profound flavor experience.
  • With Seasonal Hikone Seafood: For the fresh Hikone seafood of the day, a clean-tasting local Shiga sake or a white wine is ideal, as they won't overpower the delicate natural flavors of the ingredients.
