Commitment

1

The size of the bonito

In spring, young 2-3kg first-catch bonito; in autumn, richly fatty 4-5kg returning bonito, carefully selected by season.

2

Raw bonito from Kochi

Most Kochi bonito is pole-and-line caught, leaving it beautiful and undamaged. We ship our select bonito direct from the port.

3

Straw from Shiga

We use straw hand-cut ourselves from vast contracted fields in Shiga. Dried straw burns hot with the finest smoky aroma.

4

The grilling

Over straw flames reaching 1000 degrees, we sear a crust about 5mm into the flesh, then finish with residual heat to lock in flavor.

5

The thickness of the cut

Cut over 1cm thick so the straw aroma fills your mouth, brimming with bonito flavor and a springy texture.

6

Our chosen salt

A fully sun-dried salt handmade by artisans from Kochi seawater. We select larger crystals for a mellow mineral taste.

Service

01

Robata & Warayaki

03

04

Omi Beef & Omi Chicken

Shiga's specialty Omi beef, straw-grilled or miso-marinated, and overnight-dried Omi chicken. Enjoy Shiga's premium ingredients dynamically over charcoal in Hikone.

05

Private Rooms & Banquets

Relaxing private rooms, banquet courses with free-flow drinks, and full-venue bookings on request. Steps from Hikone Station — ideal for company parties and gatherings.

How to enjoy Robata

Robata Story

01

Choose your seat: counter or round table

Across 90 seats there are counter seats, round tables, three table private rooms for six each, and two tatami private rooms for up to 30. For a close view of the straw flames, take the counter.

02

Straight off the fire, taste it plain

Begin at the surface, wrapped in the fragrance of straw. The first plain mouthful tells you what the bonito and the Omi beef taste like on their own.

03

Move through the course with salt and citrus

Partway through, bring in condiments, rock salt and citrus. On the Shiga Mankitsu course, ten dishes at 6,050 yen, the meal runs on to Kurao pork and Omi duck junjun.

04

A cup after walking Hikone Castle

Hikone Castle, Genkyuen and Yumekyobashi Castle Road are a two minute walk back from JR Hikone Station. Our staff suggest the Shiga sake that suits your sashimi or straw-grilled plate.

Do You Face These Concerns When Choosing a Restaurant for Your Important Banquet or Anniversary?

I'm planning a special banquet or anniversary in Hikone, but I don't know which restaurant to choose... Many people may share this concern. There are several crucial points to consider when selecting a venue. For instance, concerns can be wide-ranging: What is the quality of the food? Can we secure a private space? Is it easily accessible? Does it fit the budget? Such worries can potentially spoil an otherwise special day.

  • It's difficult to choose a menu that will please everyone.

Whether the restaurant can provide dishes that match the participants' preferences and the event's purpose is a constant headache for organizers. Especially in important situations like client dinners or anniversaries, the choice of cuisine can significantly alter the atmosphere. There is also a high demand for seafood in Hikone, making it important to know if a restaurant can serve dishes with fresh fish and shellfish.

  • I can't find a restaurant with a private room where we can talk in a relaxed atmosphere.

The need to enjoy private conversations and spend time leisurely without worrying about surroundings is extremely high. For those looking for an izakaya for business entertainment in Hikone, the availability of private rooms is an essential condition. However, we often hear that it's difficult to find a private room that fits the desired number of people and atmosphere.

  • Which restaurants around Hikone Station are easily accessible and convenient for meeting up?

The restaurant's location is very important when participants are coming from afar or heading straight from work. Factors like whether it's a convenient spot for a gathering near Hikone Station, if parking is available, or if it has good access via public transportation are major elements in choosing a venue.

  • Is there a restaurant that offers high-quality service and food within my budget?

For an organizer, budget management is one of the most critical tasks. Finding a restaurant that can provide satisfying food and service for all participants within a set budget can seem like a daunting challenge. However, finding a place with excellent cost performance leads to a successful banquet.

  • I'm concerned about the smoking and non-smoking situation.

In recent years, awareness regarding separated smoking areas has increased. For groups with both smokers and non-smokers, choosing a designated smoking izakaya in Hikone where everyone can feel comfortable is important. Whether the environment is pleasant for all guests is another criterion for selection.

To resolve these concerns and help you achieve the best possible banquet or anniversary, we will now introduce the specific solutions our banquet courses in Hikone can offer.
