Commitment

1

The size of the bonito

In spring, young 2-3kg first-catch bonito; in autumn, richly fatty 4-5kg returning bonito, carefully selected by season.

2

Raw bonito from Kochi

Most Kochi bonito is pole-and-line caught, leaving it beautiful and undamaged. We ship our select bonito direct from the port.

3

Straw from Shiga

We use straw hand-cut ourselves from vast contracted fields in Shiga. Dried straw burns hot with the finest smoky aroma.

4

The grilling

Over straw flames reaching 1000 degrees, we sear a crust about 5mm into the flesh, then finish with residual heat to lock in flavor.

5

The thickness of the cut

Cut over 1cm thick so the straw aroma fills your mouth, brimming with bonito flavor and a springy texture.

6

Our chosen salt

A fully sun-dried salt handmade by artisans from Kochi seawater. We select larger crystals for a mellow mineral taste.

Service

01

Robata & Warayaki

04

05

How to enjoy Robata

Robata Story

01

Choose your seat: counter or round table

Across 90 seats there are counter seats, round tables, three table private rooms for six each, and two tatami private rooms for up to 30. For a close view of the straw flames, take the counter.

02

Straight off the fire, taste it plain

Begin at the surface, wrapped in the fragrance of straw. The first plain mouthful tells you what the bonito and the Omi beef taste like on their own.

03

Move through the course with salt and citrus

Partway through, bring in condiments, rock salt and citrus. On the Shiga Mankitsu course, ten dishes at 6,050 yen, the meal runs on to Kurao pork and Omi duck junjun.

04

A cup after walking Hikone Castle

Hikone Castle, Genkyuen and Yumekyobashi Castle Road are a two minute walk back from JR Hikone Station. Our staff suggest the Shiga sake that suits your sashimi or straw-grilled plate.

Make Your Hikone Reunion an Unforgettable Memory

Reuniting with old friends is exciting at any age. A reunion in Hikone, where you spent your student days, to chat with familiar faces holds a special meaning. However, for the organizer, choosing a venue, planning the menu, and creating the right atmosphere can often be a challenge. To answer the wish, 'Since we're all getting together, I want to make it the best memory,' we'll offer tips for a successful Hikone reunion from the perspective of our commitment to quality ingredients. We invite you to enjoy a moment of heartfelt conversation while fully experiencing the charm of Hikone at our restaurant.

The Key to a Successful Hikone Reunion is the Food

The main stars of a reunion are, of course, the old friends you haven't seen in a long time. However, there's no doubt that food is a crucial element that enriches the reunion and sparks conversation. Delicious food does more than just fill your stomach; it has a magical power to bring back fond memories, create new topics of conversation, and create a relaxed atmosphere. For organizers looking to increase guest satisfaction and reduce their own workload, selecting the right menu is a key to a successful reunion.

  • A Catalyst for Conversation: Gathering around delicious food naturally sparks conversations like, This brings back memories, or This tastes amazing.
  • Creating a Memorable Experience: The delight experienced through taste makes the entire reunion a deeper, more unforgettable event.
  • Peace of Mind for Organizers: Hearing guests say, The food was delicious, allows the organizer to relax and enjoy the event as well.

Especially for a reunion held in the historic castle town of Hikone, offering dishes that feature unique local ingredients can provide a deeply resonant experience for attendees. The time spent reconnecting with old friends while savoring the blessings of Hikone's rich nature is truly priceless.

The Charm of Reunion Cuisine: A Harmony of Hikone's Ocean Bounty and Local Ingredients

The main reason we recommend our restaurant for reunions in Hikone is, above all, our 'commitment to ingredients.' Our dishes, crafted from carefully selected materials—including the bounty of Lake Biwa, fresh seafood from the nearby sea, and local vegetables grown in fertile soil—are sure to impress your palate and satisfy your heart. Rediscover the charm of Hikone through its food and make your reunion memories even more vivid.

Fresh Seafood Delivered Daily: Authentic Seafood Cuisine in Hikone

To provide our guests with the finest seafood, we source carefully selected fresh fish every morning. Our skilled chefs use their discerning eye to select the best seasonal seafood at its peak, such as Biwa trout from Lake Biwa, and snow crab, sweet shrimp, and blackthroat seaperch from the bountiful Sea of Japan. Our pride is offering freshness and flavor that makes you feel as if you are right at the fishing port, all while being in Hikone.

  • Sashimi Platter with Unparalleled Freshness: Prepared with fish sourced that very morning, the firm texture and rich umami are exceptional. This colorful platter, featuring sea bream, flounder, and amberjack, is visually stunning and a perfect dish to kick off your reunion.
  • Grilled and Simmered Dishes that Maximize Flavor: The true value of fresh seafood shines through with simple cooking methods. Salt-grilling makes the skin fragrant and the flesh fluffy, while simmering allows the rich flavor of the dashi broth to permeate every bite.
  • Seasonal Specialties Unique to Hikone Seafood: We offer limited-time menus featuring the best seasonal catches, such as cherry sea bream in spring, pike conger in summer, returning bonito in autumn, and crab in winter. Part of our charm is the new culinary discoveries you can make with each visit.

The Rich Bounty of the Land: Select Ingredients Nurtured by Hikone's Climate

In addition to seafood, our cuisine indispensably features fresh vegetables from the fertile lands of Hikone, Shiga, and high-quality meats passed down through generations in the historic Omi region. Fresh vegetables sourced directly from local farmers are characterized by their robust flavor and crispness. We also offer the renowned Omi beef, a famous brand of wagyu, prepared in various ways for you to fully experience Hikone's culinary culture.

  • Colorful Dishes with Vegetables from Shiga Prefecture: Salads, tempura, and simmered dishes made with an abundance of seasonal vegetables complement our seafood and brighten the dining table. In particular, Kyo-mizuna and Manganji peppers, grown with underground water from Lake Biwa, offer a crisp texture and unique flavor.
  • A Luxurious Moment with Omi Beef: Known for its fine marbling and melt-in-your-mouth sweetness, Omi beef can be served in various forms, including steak, seared sushi, and shabu-shabu. It's a superb dish we highly recommend as a special treat for your reunion.
  • Fusion with Beloved Local Fermented Foods: Shiga Prefecture has a deep-rooted culture of fermented foods. Dishes incorporating items like funa-zushi (fermented crucian carp sushi) and local miso and soy sauce offer a flavor unique to Hikone, which is sure to delight old friends visiting from afar.

Enjoy the Seasons with All Five Senses: A Menu Incorporating Seasonal Delights

We design our menu to reflect the changing seasons, allowing you to experience the four seasons of Japan throughout the year. We select the most delicious ingredients of each season—wild vegetables and bamboo shoots in spring, edamame and eggplant in summer, mushrooms and chestnuts in autumn, and daikon radish and Chinese cabbage in winter—to grace your reunion table. Seasonal ingredients are highly nutritious and offer a special flavor that can only be enjoyed at that time.

  • Special Seasonal Courses: We offer special courses perfect for reunions, featuring an abundance of the best ingredients from each season. From colorful appetizers to the main seafood dish and a finishing course, you can enjoy the transition of the seasons with all five senses.
  • Pairing with Sake and Wine: We suggest local sake and carefully selected wines that pair well with our seasonal dishes. The synergy between food and drink is sure to liven up the conversation at your reunion.
  • Visually Beautiful Presentation: Dining is an experience for the eyes as well as the palate. We take care to create beautiful presentations that are a feast for the eyes, using seasonal flowers and leaves and paying close attention to our choice of tableware.

A Space for Heartfelt Conversation: Private Rooms and Services Ideal for Hikone Reunions

Along with delicious food, a 'space' where attendees can talk to their hearts' content is crucial for a successful reunion. To cherish your private time, we offer a variety of private rooms, providing the perfect environment for a reunion in Hikone. You can reminisce about old times and enjoy a heartwarming reunion without worrying about your surroundings.

The greatest appeal of a private room is that you can enjoy yourselves without disturbing other guests. Our restaurant offers various types of private rooms that can accommodate groups of all sizes, from small to large, to meet your needs.

  • A Variety of Rooms for Different Group Sizes: We offer a wide range of options, from cozy rooms for 5-6 people to spacious tatami or table-style rooms for groups of 20 or more. We can suggest the optimal space for the size of your Hikone reunion.
  • Relax in a Private Space: A private setting where you can talk freely with close friends without worrying about other groups significantly enhances the reunion experience. Feel free to share old photos and get excited over past stories.
  • Choice of Japanese or Western-Style Rooms: You can choose according to your preference, from Japanese-style rooms with horigotatsu (sunken kotatsu) where you can stretch your legs, to Western-style rooms with chairs and tables. We've designed them to be comfortable even for long periods, so you can relax and enjoy.

Access from Hikone Station and Surroundings: A Convenient Location for Organizers

Accessibility is a crucial factor when choosing a reunion venue. Some guests may travel from afar, while others live locally in Hikone. Our restaurant is very conveniently located near Hikone Station, making it easy for everyone to gather and return home. This should be a reassuring point for organizers searching for a venue for a 'Hikone Station get-together'.

  • Prime Location, a Few Minutes' Walk from Hikone Station's East Exit: After exiting the east exit of Hikone Station, a short walk through the bustling Asahi-cho will bring you to our restaurant. Even first-time visitors to Hikone will find us without any trouble.
  • Smooth transition to an After-Party: Being located in front of the station makes it very easy to move on to an after-party. There are many other restaurants and bars in the vicinity, offering plenty of options.
  • An Asahi-cho Izakaya Where You Can Enjoy with Peace of Mind: The Asahi-cho area, close to Hikone Station, is well-lit and busy even at night, making it a safe environment for everyone, including female guests. We provide a setting where all can enjoy themselves safely.

Reducing the Organizer's Burden: Our Attentive Support System

Organizing a reunion involves a lot of preparation, from contacting attendees to coordinating with the restaurant, and it's easy to get bogged down by these tasks. At our restaurant, we have an attentive support system to lighten the organizer's load as much as possible. We will assist you in various ways so that you can enjoy the reunion along with everyone else.

  • Course Proposals Tailored to Your Budget and Preferences: We will ask about your budget, food preferences, and the age range of the attendees in advance to propose the optimal course plan. We can also flexibly accommodate requests regarding all-you-can-drink options.
  • Accommodating Allergies and Dietary Restrictions: If any guests have specific food allergies or dietary restrictions such as vegetarian or halal, please let us know in advance, and we will do our best to accommodate them. We strive to ensure that everyone can enjoy their meal with peace of mind.
  • Assistance with Surprise Events: We can also help with surprise arrangements, such as preparing bouquets or gifts for a former teacher, providing a birthday cake, or setting up a projector for a nostalgic slideshow. Please feel free to consult with us.
  • Support from Experienced Staff: Our staff, experienced in hosting reunions, will provide attentive service, managing the flow of the event and the timing of the food service. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to ask.
