Our story
Located in the heart of Hikone, Shiga, Uomaru is a seafood izakaya where fresh fish and carefully selected sake meet the craft of robatayaki grilling.
Sashimi finished by skilled hands from fish delivered straight from the port, bonito from Kochi, and Omi beef from Shiga — grilled dynamically right before you over straw and charcoal.
A calm Japanese space with lively counter seats and relaxing private rooms — for dates, family dinners, and company banquets alike.
Commitment
In spring, young 2-3kg first-catch bonito; in autumn, richly fatty 4-5kg returning bonito, carefully selected by season.
Most Kochi bonito is pole-and-line caught, leaving it beautiful and undamaged. We ship our select bonito direct from the port.
We use straw hand-cut ourselves from vast contracted fields in Shiga. Dried straw burns hot with the finest smoky aroma.
Over straw flames reaching 1000 degrees, we sear a crust about 5mm into the flesh, then finish with residual heat to lock in flavor.
Cut over 1cm thick so the straw aroma fills your mouth, brimming with bonito flavor and a springy texture.
A fully sun-dried salt handmade by artisans from Kochi seawater. We select larger crystals for a mellow mineral taste.

Across 90 seats there are counter seats, round tables, three table private rooms for six each, and two tatami private rooms for up to 30. For a close view of the straw flames, take the counter.
Begin at the surface, wrapped in the fragrance of straw. The first plain mouthful tells you what the bonito and the Omi beef taste like on their own.
Partway through, bring in condiments, rock salt and citrus. On the Shiga Mankitsu course, ten dishes at 6,050 yen, the meal runs on to Kurao pork and Omi duck junjun.
Hikone Castle, Genkyuen and Yumekyobashi Castle Road are a two minute walk back from JR Hikone Station. Our staff suggest the Shiga sake that suits your sashimi or straw-grilled plate.

When planning a Hikone Station gathering for business dinners or anniversaries, the choice of space is a crucial factor. Private rooms, which facilitate lively conversation and allow for private time, are a popular choice among many customers. Here, we introduce the appeal of Hikone zashiki private rooms and key points for selecting a private room suitable for special occasions.
Private rooms provide a secluded space, isolated from the surrounding hustle and bustle. For business dinners, you can conduct important discussions, and for anniversaries, you can enjoy a special time just for two, without worrying about other guests. This allows for concentrated conversation and fosters deeper communication.
Many Hikone zashiki private rooms feature a traditional zashiki style where you can remove your shoes and relax. This allows you to stretch your legs and dine in a comfortable, relaxed posture, reducing fatigue even during long gatherings. The Japanese ambiance of the space is ideal for showing respect to business guests or creating a special atmosphere for anniversaries.
Our establishment offers various types of private rooms suitable for everything from small groups to large banquets. From couple's seats for two to fully private rooms accommodating 10 or more people comfortably, we propose the optimal space tailored to your group size and purpose. Please inform us of your group size and purpose when making a reservation, and we will guide you to the most suitable Hikone zashiki private room.
Cuisine undoubtedly plays the leading role in enhancing a special Hikone Station gathering. Our restaurant offers memorable gourmet experiences with carefully selected ingredients and cooking methods rarely found elsewhere. Among them, fresh bonito directly delivered from Kochi and Shiga's proud brand wagyu, Omi Beef, are exquisite dishes perfectly suited for business dinners and anniversaries.
One of our signature dishes is the authentic Kochi-direct straw-grilled bonito. Fresh bonito, sourced directly from Kochi, is grilled rapidly over straw flames upon order. The straw's intense heat sears the surface of the bonito in an instant, imparting a fragrant smoky aroma while keeping the inside moist and juicy. This dynamic cooking spectacle is an entertainment that stimulates all five senses. The fiery show unfolding before your eyes will undoubtedly spark conversation and become a part of your unforgettable memories.
While delicious on its own, the straw-grilled bonito can also be enjoyed with condiments or our special ponzu sauce, allowing you to savor various flavor nuances. The harmony of the bonito's inherent umami and the straw's aroma is truly a taste of bliss.
And, if you're experiencing a special gathering in Shiga, Omi Beef is simply a must-try. Ranked as one of Japan's three major wagyu brands, Omi Beef is characterized by its fine marbling, melt-in-your-mouth texture, and the sweet richness of its premium fat. Our restaurant offers Omi Beef prepared in various ways to maximize its appeal.
We offer numerous exquisite dishes that allow you to fully savor the deliciousness of Omi Beef, such as steak, seared sushi, and sukiyaki. The rich aroma that fills your mouth the moment you taste it and its velvety texture will provide the ultimate hospitality for your business guests. For anniversaries, gather around luxurious Omi Beef dishes and create a truly memorable time.
In addition to Kochi-direct straw-grilled bonito and Omi Beef, our restaurant also offers seasonal delicacies that actively incorporate fresh local ingredients nurtured by Hikone and Shiga's rich nature. Seasonal fresh seafood and dishes made with Shiga-grown vegetables bring new discoveries and delights with every visit. Our course menus thoughtfully combine these seasonal flavors, with each dish meticulously prepared with the skill and heart of our chefs.
Delicious food is incomplete without suitable beverages. Especially for a Hikone Station gathering where you want to enjoy local charm, Shiga's local sake is an indispensable choice. Our restaurant offers a selection of fine sakes nurtured in the Hikone region, enhancing your special evening even further.
Shiga Prefecture, blessed with abundant water and fertile land, has a long history of thriving sake brewing. Crafted using pristine underground water from the Lake Biwa watershed and locally grown sake rice, Shiga's local sakes are diverse in flavor, with each brewery pursuing its unique character. You can choose according to your preference, from crisp and dry to those characterized by rich aroma and umami.
We can also suggest food pairings to complement your meal, helping you find the perfect sake to match dishes like straw-grilled bonito or Omi Beef. Enjoy the night in Hikone to your heart's content with a glass of Shiga's local sake in hand.
In addition to sake, we offer a wide range of beverages, including beer, shochu, wine, highballs, cocktails, and soft drinks. You can enjoy various alcoholic beverages tailored to your business guests' preferences or the anniversary's atmosphere. Our non-alcoholic drink selection is also extensive, ensuring that even those who don't drink alcohol can comfortably enjoy their Hikone Station gathering.
Specifically, our wine selection features carefully chosen labels to pair well with meat dishes like Omi Beef. While we don't have a resident sommelier, our staff can offer pairing suggestions based on their experience, so please feel free to ask.
To ensure a successful Hikone Station gathering, not only the food, drinks, and ambiance, but also the restaurant's service is a crucial factor. At Asahicho Izakaya, we cherish each customer's special moment and strive to provide meticulous service to create a memorable day.

Especially for special occasions like business dinners or anniversaries, we strive for thoughtful service that allows guests to enjoy conversations smoothly.
For anniversary celebrations, we are happy to assist with surprise arrangements, such as bringing in a cake or preparing a message plate. Please inform us of your desired surprise details when making a reservation, and we will prepare to accommodate your requests as much as possible. Our entire staff looks forward to helping you convey your gratitude or celebratory messages to your loved ones.
To ensure all guests can dine with peace of mind, we will accommodate allergies and dietary restrictions as much as possible. Please inform us of any ingredients you dislike or allergy information when booking or upon arrival. We will make individual adjustments, such as modifying menu items. However, please understand that as all cooking occurs in the same kitchen, complete removal of allergens may sometimes be difficult.
Asahicho Izakaya, located just a few minutes' walk from Hikone Station East Exit, offers superb accessibility. Guests traveling from afar can reach us without getting lost. Moreover, its easy access from nearby tourist attractions like Hikone Castle makes it convenient to plan a day to fully enjoy Hikone's charm before or after a business dinner or as a culmination of sightseeing. There are also taxi stands near the restaurant for a smooth departure.
Up to this point, we've introduced how to choose the ideal Hikone Station gathering for business dinners and anniversaries. Here, we present practical steps to actually make your special evening a cherished memory.
Clearly define the occasion for the gathering, whether it's a business dinner, birthday, or wedding anniversary. This will determine the desired atmosphere, service, and culinary direction of the restaurant.
Accurately determine the number of guests. Selecting a space appropriate for the group size is important, such as a cozy private room for a small group or a spacious zashiki private room for a larger party.
Establish a per-person budget. Based on this, you can consider whether to opt for a course meal or enjoy à la carte. Communicating your budget makes it easier for the restaurant to propose suitable plans.
Identify specific priorities for this gathering, such as Hikone zashiki private room, Kochi-direct straw-grilled bonito, Omi Beef, or Shiga local sake, and narrow down restaurants that offer them.
The restaurant tends to be crowded, especially on weekends, holidays, or event days. For a significant Hikone Station gathering, aim to make a reservation one to several weeks in advance. If you have specific requests, such as a private room or a particular course, clearly communicate them at the time of booking.
For business dinners and anniversaries, a fixed-price course is recommended. Review the menu beforehand and choose considering your guests' preferences and allergies. It's also wise to confirm the availability of all-you-can-drink options.
If any guests have allergies or ingredients they dislike, be sure to inform the restaurant when making your reservation. Communicating this in advance allows for smoother accommodation.
If you're planning a surprise for an anniversary, discuss the specific details (e.g., bringing a cake, message plate, entrusting a gift) when booking. The restaurant's cooperation can help achieve a more memorable presentation.
Confirm the access method to the restaurant (route from Hikone Station, parking, etc.) beforehand and inform your guests, ensuring a smooth arrival on the day.
Arrive with plenty of time to avoid being late for your meeting. Especially for business dinners, it's considered polite to arrive before your guests.
If you have any issues or questions, do not hesitate to speak with the restaurant staff. Communication is important for smooth service delivery.
On the day, enjoy the delicious food and Shiga's local sake to your heart's content. The experience of savoring with all your senses while enjoying conversation will surely become an unforgettable memory.
When leaving, expressing your thanks to the restaurant staff will ensure a pleasant conclusion for everyone.
The secret to a successful Hikone Station gathering is not merely choosing a place with delicious food, but selecting a restaurant that offers a space suited to the occasion's purpose, warm service, and a truly memorable experience. For business dinners, it's about showing respect to your guests; for anniversaries, it's about expressing love to your dear ones—such thoughtful venue selection is paramount.
At Asahicho Izakaya, we provide private spaces in Hikone zashiki private rooms and delight your palate with carefully selected ingredients like Kochi-direct straw-grilled bonito and Shiga's renowned Omi Beef.
